Dunne cements his stance on tactics

RICHARD DUNNE has defended his decision to criticise the Republic of Ireland’s tactics in last month’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Russia.

Giovanni Trapattoni’s side went down 3-2 to Russia during the Aviva Stadium clash and in a post-match interview Aston Villa defender Dunne blasted the team’s long ball approach.

“We seemed to have one game plan and that was go long. When that didn’t work we were left wide open,” he said.
