Too easy for five-star Arsenal

ARSENAL and Chelsea all but secured a place in the last 16 of the Champions League after recording comfortable victories last night.

The Gunners demolished Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 thanks to first half goals from Alex Song and Samir Nasri and second half efforts from Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshere and Marouane Chamakh. Shakhtar’s late consolation came from former Arsenal star Eduardo.

Elsewhere Chelsea eased to a 2-0 victory over a Spartak Moscow side that included Ireland winger Aiden McGeady.

Chelsea took the lead after 23 minutes when Yuri Zhirkov scored his first goal for the club with a stunning volley.

And Carlo Ancelotti’s side wrapped victory just before half-time when Nicolas Anelka scored his 50th goal for the club.
