McGeady taken aback by Russian fan riots

AIDEN McGEADY experienced football’s ugly side once or twice in Glasgow, but nothing compared to the scenes that unfolded last Sunday when his Spartak Moscow side travelled to play Anzhi Makhachkala in Dagestan.

A 1-0 win in front of 12,500 supporters sounds routine enough. It was anything but. The day ended with the visiting team bus being stoned by home fans on the way home. Players were forced to shield themselves with their bags.

It was worse inside the ground.
