Avondale top after win over Blarney

WITH a shortened fixture list due to yesterday’s All-Ireland final, Avondale United took over top spot in the Beamish Stout Munster Senior League Premier Division after a 1-0 victory over Blarney United at O’Shea Park on Friday night.

Avondale have now won two and drawn one of their three games, while Blarney have lost both their opening fixtures.

Douglas Hall made it two wins from two with a 5-1 hammering of promoted Tramore Athletic at Tramore Park on Saturday to continue their excellent start to Phil Harrington’s first season in charge.

In the other Premier Division match, Midleton got their first points of the season with a 1-0 victory over St Mary’s at Knockgriffin on Friday night.

In the First Division, College Corinthians and Fermoy share top spot with seven points from three games after Saturday’s games.

Corinthians defeated Mallow United 2-0 at Corinthians Park, while Fermoy were held to a 1-1 draw by Castleview in Fermoy.

Elsewhere, Ringmahon Rangers made it two wins from three with a 2-1 away win over Ballinhassig, who were playing their first league game of the season, while Casement Celtic put five without reply past a hapless Ballincollig.

In the Second Division, three teams have six points at the top. Youghal United have maximum points from two games after they thrashed Lakewood 5-0 in Youghal on Friday night.

Passage United made it two wins from three with a 3-1 win over Garryduff in Garryduff, while Glasheen also made it two wins from three after seeing off Crosshaven at Glasheen Park.

In the other Second Division game, Temple United defeated Bandon 3-2 in Bandon.
