Stoch strike rocks Russians

The shock result means Giovanni Trapattoni’s side can open up a significant six-point advantage on Russia if they defeat Dick Advocaat’s side in the Aviva Stadium next month.

Fenerbahce midfielder Stoch took advantage of keeper Igor Akinfeev’s mistake to find the net in the 27th minute and Russia failed to make the most of their dominance as Slovakia held firm, with keeper Jan Mucha to the fore.
