Liverpool look to keep Mascherano

LIVERPOOL have underlined their determination to keep hold of midfielder Javier Mascherano and warned Barcelona and Inter Milan they will need to make a serious offer to stand any chance of taking him away from Anfield.

Mascherano started against Arsenal yesterday and was outstanding, even though he has recently said he wants to leave the club amid rumours Barcelona are ready to swoop.

But manager Roy Hodgson remains hopeful the player will stay. He said: “His performance didn’t surprise me, he’s an outstanding player. He’s one of the best at his job in the world.
