Capello finds young talent ‘to help build for future’

ENGLAND coach Fabio Capello feels he has found some young players who can help him build for the future after the 2-1 friendly win over Hungary at Wembley.

Capello finds young talent ‘to help build for future’

Capello, who included Adam Johnson and Theo Walcott in his starting line-up and gave a first cap to substitute Jack Wilshere, had seen his side fall behind to an own goal by Phil Jagielka.

But, faced with another defeat on the back of a disastrous World Cup, the home side responded as a double from captain Steven Gerrard sealed the win.

Capello said: “I am happy with the performance, we played well in the first 30 minutes, but the last 10 minutes of the first half were not so good. They were really compact and it was difficult to find space.

“I think we have found some new players for the future.”

England had been expected to receive a poor reception from the Wembley crowd last night, but that did not prove to be the case and Capello thanked the supporters.

Meanwhile David Beckham has not discussed his retirement with Fabio Capello, his spokesman said last night, after the England manager appeared to call time on the 35-year-old’s international career.

Speaking ahead of last night’s friendly, Capello said: “I say thank you very much for helping me at the World Cup but probably he is a little bit old.”

But Beckham’s spokesman said the remarks did not necessarily mean the midfielder would never play for England again.

He said: “There has been no discussion of retirement. He will always be available for his country, when fit and if needed he will be there.”

Beckham has played 115 times for England, 10 short of goalkeeper Peter Shilton’s overall record.

He missed out on playing at a fourth World Cup after tearing an achilles tendon in March during a loan spell with AC Milan.
