Shine puts Dublin boys in seventh heaven

EVAN Shine was the hero with a late winner for the Dublin District Soccer League, who clinched their seventh successive SFAI Umbro Kennedy Cup crown at Limerick University yesterday in the final against South Dublin.

Shine puts Dublin boys in seventh heaven

The champions started well with Shine’s shot hitting the crossbar but they were rocked on 15 minutes when Lee Higgins put South Dublin ahead.

SDFL goalkeeper Conor Mackey saved from Jack Byrne and Shine as DDSL ended the half on the offensive but it wasn’t until the second half that they levelled with a well-worked free-kick.

And 10 minutes from time, Shine stuck out his boot eight yards out to divert Ben Green’s shot to the net.

Wicklow took third place in the overall competition, defeating host League Limerick District in a penalty shoot-out following a scoreless draw. In the finals of the subsidiary competitions, it was a good day for Connacht with Mayo, Galway and Sligo/Leitrim taking the silverware.
