The decision will come as a blow to Giovanni Trapattoni who, when he signed his new contract with the FAI, had said that he hoped Brady would also be able to continue in his role with the senior team. And only last week in Dublin, his fellow assistant Marco Tardelli said that he would be “delighted” if Brady remained in his post.

Insisting that Arsenal were happy for him to continue in the Irish job, Brady yesterday cited his workload as Director of Youth Development at the club as the main reason for his decision to step down.
