KEVIN KEEGAN felt vindicated after a tribunal awarded him £2 million (€2.18 million) in damages from Newcastle for his constructive dismissal from the club last year.

Keegan walked out of a £3m-a-year contract in September 2008 following a row with the club over the loan signing of Ignacio Gonzalez against his wishes, sparking a stand-off which has taken more than a year to resolve.

The award fell way short of the £25m the 58-year-old had claimed in total as yet another unsavoury episode in the Magpies’ chaotic recent history drew to a close.
