ROY KEANE is famous for his focus. As a player he claimed he forgot about what he won within seconds of winning it. The target was always the next match, the next season, the next trophy.

As a manager he is clearly a man in a hurry. During his spell at Sunderland he took the Black Cats from bottom of the Championship to the title-winning promotion in his first season.

His first season as a Premier League manager was a qualified success: Sunderland survived. His second unravelled spectacularly. A man who, with the notable exception of being part of the Nottingham Forest side relegated in 1993, had only known success as a player had failed for the first time.
