Laporta blasts Real’s ‘risky’ Kaka move

BARCELONA president Joan Laporta has lashed out at Real Madrid and lambasted his counterpart Florentino Perez for “distorting” the transfer market after the €65 million world-record signing of Kaka from AC Milan.

Speculation is also rife that they are set to beat even that with an €80m bid for Cristiano Ronaldo, and Laporta believes that could be dangerous for football.

“It’s an opportunity to try to show that the market is at different levels,” he said. “To pay these quantities is exorbitant.

“It doesn’t fit in with the reality of the market and it’s too risky. It’s distorting it.”

For his part, Kaka is excited at Madrid’s transfer plans.

“Real Madrid intend to build a great team, along with historic players such as Raul and Casillas,” he said.

“We will make history again, both in Spain and Europe.”

Perez promises to do “everything possible” to sign Ronaldo, vowing to continue to target “galacticos”.

Perez said: “I will do everything possible to get Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

“Kaka is (just) the first signing.”

Asked about reports Manchester United have allowed Ronaldo to sign a pre-contract with Madrid, Perez said: “I have read about this but I have been at this club a week and not seen anything about this.”

He added: “What I want the most is to keep good relationships with other clubs. The only thing I have done is ensure we follow the path Santiago Bernabeu marked out for us; (signing) the best players in the world (Alfredo Di Stefano), the best in Spain (Amancio) and, with them, the best from the youth set-up (Raul).”

Nevertheless, it is expected to be a summer of change at Madrid with nine players seemingly on their way out of the club.

“(The squad) has 28 players. We can bring in six new and only register 25,” Perez said. The likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Villa have also been linked with moves to Madrid.

Spanish daily Marca claims Perez has an agreement in place with Villa’s club Valencia, whose financial position means they are unlikely to reject an offer close to their valuation.

But Perez appeared to pour cold water on talk Liverpool’s Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso could be heading to the Bernabeu.

“He is a great player but he also plays in a big team and I haven’t heard any news that they plan to sell him,” said the Madrid president.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez meanwhile has dismissed suggestions he is trying to sign Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi.

There were claims in Italy yesterday that Napoli had been approached by an agent acting as an intermediary for Liverpool over a possible £15m deal for the 24 year-old Argentina striker. The player’s advisor Eduardo Rossetto insisted “Liverpool’s proposal is true”.

However, Benitez said yesterday: “We never contacted Lavezzi and we have no intention of doing so. We want to put a stop to these rumours.”

Liverpool have also reaffirmed their position on Javier Mascherano, who has been linked with Barcelona, insisting the player is not for sale.

This is despite Mascherano’s agent claiming the midfielder would like to join Barcelona.

Walter Tamer said: “It would make Javier very proud that a club like Barcelona pay him attention after such an incredible year. I believe a transfer would be feasible.”

AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato will speak with new Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti before making a decision on his future.

Pato has been linked with a summer move to Chelsea in the wake of Ancelotti’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.

The 19-year-old said: “With respect to my future, nothing has been decided yet. “At the end of June, I will meet with the Rossoneri executives and speak about my future. But before that happens, I will speak to Ancelotti.”

* Wigan chairman Dave Whelan last night confirmed Roberto Martinez will become the club’s new manager.

And former Republic of Ireland international midfielder John Sheridan will return to management as he has been confirmed as Chesterfield manager on a three-year contract.
