Ipswich boss Roy keen on QPR’s Irish defender Delaney

DAMIEN DELANEY could be on his way to Ipswich to join Roy Keane.

The new Ipswich Town boss has reportedly made inquiries about the Irish international while QPR are said to be prepared to let him go for around €600,000.

After making a good impression following his arrival on a year and half year deal from Hull City in January 2008, the former Cork City man has lately slipped down the pecking order at Loftus Road. Fellow Championship side Ipswich are known to be keen to bolster their meagre options at full-back, with Ben Thatcher the only left-sided player in that position at the club now that Dan Harding, Matt Richards and Kurt Robinson have all been released.

The 6ft 3in defender was one of the first new faces blooded at international level under Giovanni Trapattoni, making his debut against Serbia in the manager’s first full match in charge a year ago and earning his second and, to date, last cap, against Colombia at Craven Cottage the following month. Delaney has made 57 QPR starts and two sub appearances, with three goals.
