Miller eyes move after tough year
Miller, 28, was released by Queens Park Rangers two weeks ago after his short-term contract – which he signed after leaving Sunderland in January – expired. The former Celtic and Manchester United midfielder has been training with Cork City in a bid to keep himself fit but is confident of finding a new club.
“Hopefully something will be sorted in the next week or two,” he said. “There’s no major rush – you still see players getting signed in June and July.
“There seems to be a few clubs who have expressed an interest, including one or two Premier League clubs.”
Hull City are one of the clubs believed to have contacted Miller over a move, although the midfielder has not ruled out remaining in the Championship. Ipswich Town, now managed by fellow Corkman Roy Keane, have also been mooted as a possible destination, although no formal contact has yet been made.
In the meantime, Miller is focusing on finishing a dismal 12 months on a high with his country, either in tomorrow’s friendly against Nigeria or the pivotal World Cup qualifier in Bulgaria on 6 June.
“It’s been very frustrating this year, probably the worst year I’ve had in football,” said Miller. “It’s been good to get picked for the squads by Ireland and it’s nice that the manager has shown some faith in me.
“The team have been flying results wise and it would be great to get a chance on Friday. It’s up to me and I have to play well if I get a chance.”
