Terry hails Chelsea’s ‘fantastic result’

CHELSEA captain John Terry felt the Blues’ homework was the secret to their clean sheet against Barcelona in the Nou Camp last night.

Terry hails Chelsea’s ‘fantastic result’

The hosts largely dominated the game but could not find a way past the Chelsea defence and goalkeeper Petr Cech as Guus Hiddink’s side held out for a goalless draw.

“They had a lot of possession but we stayed tight,’’ Terry reflected.

“We watched videos before the game; they like to play little balls through and we knew that and stopped them doing it.

“It’s a fantastic result and we go back to the Bridge ready to go.”

It could have been even better for Chelsea had Didier Drogba converted a golden chance in the first half but he was twice denied by Victor Valdes.

Terry, though, refused to blame the striker, saying: “I thought Didier was unlucky with both. We didn’t create too many chances but we haven’t conceded.”

Barcelona had a strong appeal for a penalty in the second half when Jose Bosingwa appeared to pull back Thierry Henry but Terry felt the referee made the right decision.

He continued: “No I don’t think (it was a penalty). It’s an intimidating place for players and referees to come.’’

He added: “We’ll have home advantage (in the second leg) so hopefully we can make the most of that,” he added.

Meanwhile Andriy Shevchenko’s agent yesterday admitted it is highly unlikely the AC Milan striker will stay at the San Siro beyond the end of the season.

Shevchenko returned to Milan on loan from Chelsea last summer but has disappointed since his return.

The Ukraine striker has found himself mainly on the bench and has made just two league appearances this season, and Fabio Parisi believes his client will not remain in Italy next season.

“Shevchenko is a player on loan at Milan from Chelsea and I think he will return to London,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s possible that the Rossoneri will decide to keep him.

“I don’t know what kind of rapport he has found with (Carlo) Ancelotti and his team-mates, the only problem is that he is a player on loan and, given how the season has gone, I think Andriy will return to Chelsea.

“If that’s to stay there or not is to be seen, it depends on who will be the coach and what he wants to do.

“But I don’t think the doors of Italy will re-open for him next season.

“Sheva will decide on his own, he’s quite calm, he doesn’t need anyone’s help. However, another country seems to me the more likely option.”
