ALEX FERGUSON has sprung to the defence of under-fire striker Dimitar Berbatov and insisted that the Bulgarian is the right man to lead the Manchester United forward-line as the season reaches its climax.

Speaking on the eve of United’s Champions League semi-final against Arsenal, Ferguson also admitted he made a tactical blunder against Barcelona in last year’s semi-final, and revealed the secret behind United’s defensive stability this season.

Berbatov has been criticised by fans and pundits alike after the £30.75 million (€34.3m) striker missed a penalty in United’s FA Cup semi-final shoot-out defeat to Everton.
