The son of the Kerry GAA legend from the 1970s and 1980s, Egan, aged 16, will join the Premier League outfit as a full-time scholar in the summer.

Egan, pictured right, has been starring for Greenwood in Cork at underage level, and was included yesterday in the Republic of Ireland U-17 squad for two upcoming internationals against Poland.

Also joining Sunderland is Donegal youngster Patrick McEleney, who plays for the Foyle Harps club.
