Benitez and Gerrard win monthly awards

LIVERPOOL boss Rafael Benitez and captain Steven Gerrard have been named the Barclays Premier League manager and player of the month for March.

The Reds enjoyed an outstanding month as they reignited their Premier League title challenge with emphatic wins over champions Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Liverpool also beat Sunderland to collect maximum points from March and move into April a point behind leaders United.
