Kinnear raps Trap over Given

JOE KINNEAR has hit out at Giovanni Trapattoni for recommending Shay Given to clubs in Italy.

“It is disrespectful to the club,” said the Newcastle United interim manager and former Irish international yesterday. “Shay has got two and a half years here, a long contract and he is very happy here. He is a big voice in the dressing room and a top class goal keeper. He is the last person we’d want to lose.”

When unveiling Given as his captain for Wednesday’s game against Poland, Ireland boss Trapattoni favourably compared him to Italian number one Gigi Buffon and revealed that he’d recommended the Lifford man to some of the top managers in Serie A.
