Keane relishing shot at hitting first ’Pool goal on derby day

LIVERPOOL’S Irish international striker Robbie Keane is looking to break his duck in front of goal for his new club when the Reds travel to derby rivals Everton tomorrow.

Keane relishing shot at hitting first ’Pool goal on derby day

The Ireland striker has fired blanks since his big-money move from Tottenham in the summer.

He has failed to find the net in his first five league games for the Anfield club, but sees the Merseyside derby as the ideal game to open his account.

“Tottenham got quite a few good results against them while I was there, so hopefully that will be the same this time around with Liverpool,” Keane told Liverpool’s club website.

“But at this moment in time I’ll be happy with just the one goal.

“I think every player wants to be involved in big games and they don’t come any bigger than Everton against Liverpool. It’s the first one of the season so I think everyone is looking forward to it — especially me.”

Liverpool lie third in the table, a point behind early pace-setters Arsenal, and have yet to taste defeat this season.

Everton in contrast have lost their first two home matches, conceding six goals in the process, but Keane believes that will have no bearing on Saturday’s clash.

“I think everything goes out the window with derbies,” the Irishman added.

“My experience of derby games has taught me that each match is always completely different — no matter how well you’ve been doing in the League or how good the team you’re playing against is.

“Form can give you confidence how you play, but things will be different because it will be two teams fighting for local pride on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Everton striker Louis Saha is hoping to make a memorable home debut tomorrow for the Toffees.

The Merseyside derby provides the Frenchman with his first chance to impress the Goodison faithful since his move from Manchester United.

He impressed in away games at Hull and Blackburn but is yet to play at Goodison since switching to the club.

“It will be fantastic,” said Saha. “I am looking forward to playing at Goodison against any team but obviously the derby is brilliant.

“I am really focussed on getting three points.”
