Adebayor pledges to remain a Gunner
Recent reports have claimed the 30-goal Togo international would seek a transfer unless he received a substantial pay rise this summer, while he was quoted in French paper L’Equipe yesterday as claiming rumoured interest from Barcelona and AC Milan was “very flattering”.
Only last Friday, Adebayor attempted to put an end to talk of a move away from north London when he said: “I am very happy here. Reports which suggest I have threatened to quit are rubbish.”
And last night he once again set out his position, and insisted there is no chance he will quit Arsene Wenger’s side.
“I don’t know why people want to put words in my mouth,” he said.
“As I said on Friday, I love Arsenal and I will be here next season.
“I am off to Togo tomorrow but will return to Arsenal for pre-season training in July.”
And Adebayor insisted he wants to r fire the Gunners to silverware next season after Arsene Wenger’s side suffered another frustrating campaign this time around.
The Togo international enjoyed a fine campaign as the spearhead of the Gunners attack but his impressive personal haul of 30 goals, which saw him selected as part of the PFA Premier League team of the year, came as Arsenal failed to win a trophy.
“We were enjoying a dream season,” Adebayor said. “And then at the end, I don’t know what happened.
“But I can tell you that we have learned from this.
“(Cesc) Fabregas, (Theo) Walcott and myself will all be a year older next season. That means more experience.
“Already I feel we have understood things. They must count on us next season.
“I did think that I’d have as good a year as I have had, because I always had the potential.
“But I also didn’t think that, because if you’d told me that I would finish the season as second best goalscorer in England and that I was going to be picked in the team of the season I would have found it difficult to believe.
“But this encourages me to give even better, to get to an even higher level.”
