Chelsea livid over Curbs’ United remarks

CHELSEA are infuriated at recent comments from West Ham manager Alan Curbishley which heaped praise on Alex Ferguson and suggested it would be “a great injustice” if Manchester United fail to win the Premier League title.

Curbishley takes his side to Old Trafford tomorrow for a match United have to win to keep Chelsea at arm’s length in the Premier League title race. The Blues could capitalise on any slip-up from Ferguson’s side at Newcastle on Monday but their excitement has been tempered by concern over Curbishley’s remarks in his newspaper column last week, which one senior official described as “wholly inappropriate”.

Chelsea’s annoyance was sparked by Curbishley’s article last week, when he wrote: “It would be a great injustice if Manchester United lose the Premier League title. The general feeling among most managers is that they would like to see them crowned again... That would place him (Ferguson) as the best British manager the game has ever seen. He is Mr Amazing...that’s why I would raise a glass if United win the title.”

Curbishley has since attempted to play down his comments, writing in this week’s column that there is no possibility of West Ham rolling over at Old Trafford, but Chelsea remain unimpressed.
