Bruno: Reds can KO Blues

THE last Liverpool player to score at Chelsea backed Rafa Benitez’s side to break their four-year scoring duck at Stamford Bridge tonight.

Bruno: Reds can KO Blues

French midfielder Bruno Cheyrou, now playing at Rennes, scored the winner for Liverpool in a league win over Chelsea in January 2004. The man who replaced him after 77 minutes of that game was John Arne Riise, whose own goal gives Chelsea an advantage in the tie.

Cheyrou said: “I will be supporting Liverpool tonight and I am sure they can score at Chelsea. They played really well in the first game and were probably unlucky not to have scored more goals.”

Cheyrou cost Liverpool £4.5m when Gerard Houllier signed him in 2002. In two seasons at Anfield, he never played more than 20 games in a season. Cheyrou left for Marseille before moving to Bordeaux and now Rennes. Cheyrou only scored one other league goal for Liverpool, the opener in a 1-1 draw at Wolves.

Liverpool go into the semi-final second leg without scoring at the Bridge for eight games, a run that stretches 777 minutes. But Cheyrou declared: “Liverpool have enough strength in attack to score. I think Liverpool will reach the final.”
