Mathews expects ‘tough test’ from Limerick 37
“I look forward to welcoming Limerick to Turner’s Cross,” says City boss Alan Mathews. “It’s good to see Michael Kerley back involved at Limerick; he had a very successful spell there previously and I have no doubt he will be looking to push on into the promotion race in the First Division.”
Although Dave Mulcahy’s groin injury is not as bad as was originally feared, he is still set to miss tonight’s game. Stikers John O’Flynn and Dave Mooney are also carrying knocks and are not expected to feature.
Mathews is expected to make changes from the side which lost 2-0 to Drogheda in the league, even though he expects Cork’s near neighbours to provide a tough test this evening.
“Obviously this is a Munster derby, and I have no doubt it will be a tightly contested encounter,” he says. “This will be an opportunity for some players, who have been unlucky not to be in the side regularly, to stake a claim for a place in the team.” While Cork will be looking to recover from the loss of their unbeaten record in the league, Limerick 37 go into the game on the back of a 2-1 win away to Kildare County in the First Division.
