AS one who enjoys entertaining teammates with his guitar-playing prowess, it was only fitting that Andy Reid should strike the right chord on his Sunderland debut.

By his own admission, the 25-year-old Dubliner was very much the support act as fellow Republic of Ireland international Daryl Murphy took centre stage with one of the goals of the season.

It was midfielder Reid, recruited by Roy Keane from Charlton in a transfer deadline day deal worth up to €6 million, who provided the astute cross-field pass — seconds after coming on as a 75th-minute substitute — that Murphy collected before bringing the house down with a thunderous finish.
