Hargreaves looking to make big impression

OWEN HARGREAVES is determined to make up for lost time and help Manchester United retain the title.

Hargreaves looking to make big impression

The England midfielder has been left frustrated by a series of niggling injuries in his first season at Old Trafford following his £17million (€22.7m) move from Bayern Munich.

Hargreaves, 26, is ready to make another comeback today in the Premier League match at Reading following a rib problem.

Hargreaves admits he was wrong to return in the West Ham match last month after damaging his ribs.

He said: “I definitely came back too early but I had missed games and was frustrated. I am new here and want to play as many games as possible, so I can make an impression.

“I need to do that in the second half of the season. I am focused on staying fit and working hard in training.”

Meanwhile Louis Saha insists he is overcoming his nagging injury problems and can play an important role in the rest of United’s season.

The French striker has also struggled with injuries and has started only eight games this season.

But he said: “I’m definitely getting there. I played two full games in a row over Christmas and that was the first time I’d done that for a while.”

“So things are improving and I’m looking to play even more. My target now is to stay fit and keep finding the back of the net.”

Meanwhile, Paul Scholes could make a dramatic return to action for the Red Devils against Tottenham in the FA Cup.

The 33-year-old midfielder is set to resume full training on Thursday after a knee operation.

Scholes last figured for United in October but could be in the squad for the cup tie at Old Trafford a week on Sunday if all goes well.

Assistant manager Carlos Queiroz said: “Paul might be back on Thursday if he gets the all clear from the medical staff. “We are very pleased with the situation and maybe he can play in the FA Cup. It is a possibility he could be on the bench.

Scholes has been involved up to now in light training and Queiroz said: “He has been like an 18-year-old boy with his attitude.

“It would be fantastic to have someone like him back in the squad.”

Wes Brown also comes into contention after sitting out the 6-0 victory over Newcastle because of suspension.
