Bury upstage Norwich in fairytale win
The cash-strapped League Two outfit — who sacked manager Chris Casper and director of football Keith Alexander the previous day — went ahead through defender Ben Futcher in the 18th minute.
Leading goalscorer Andy Bishop applied a neat finish to claim his 12th of the season to secure a famous win and set up a trip to Southampton.
The giantkilling act left Norwich boss Glenn Roeder and his players humiliated, and substitute Dion Dublin’s scrappy late strike counted for nothing.
But this was Bury’s night and they could potentially earn up to £100,000 (€132,000) from their trip to Southampton, serving as a massive boost to the club’s coffers.
Caretaker boss Chris Brass also deserves a mention for guiding the Lancashire outfit to a success which was rapturously received by the jubilant Bury fans in a crowd of 4,146.
