MOST OF the people who appoint football managers are not equipped to do the job — that’s the view of Charlton’s Andy Reid who has welcomed the FAI’s decision to avail of professional expertise in the search for a successor to Steve Staunton.

However he also feels they should seek input from some of the senior players in the Irish squad.

“I have always said it is amazing the people who pick managers for jobs,” says the Dubliner. “I don’t think they are the right people. I don’t understand how chairmen could pick managers for clubs because, in all honesty, they have no real background in training ground affairs, what goes on in the pitch and what qualities managers have on a training pitch.
