Souness eyes boss’s job at Whelan’s Wigan
But the Scot maintained last night he has not spoken to anyone about taking over as manager of the Latics — who sacked Chris Hutchings on Monday.
Souness has plenty of managerial experience with Newcastle, Blackburn, Liverpool, Rangers, Galatasaray and Benfica.
And he said: “I have not spoken to anyone but it (manager of Wigan) would be a good job for someone.
“You are dealing with a football person. There are too many chief executives who think they understand the game and think they are capable of making football decisions.
“I would not imagine that would be the case at Wigan. Dave Whelan understands what football is all about.”
On the prospect of replacing former Liverpool team-mate Sammy Lee at Bolton, Souness added: “I had an interview but for reasons I would prefer to keep private I withdrew my interest.
