McShane, Elliot miss Danes clash

SUNDERLAND’S Paul McShane and Wolves’ Stephen Elliot have been forced to withdraw from the Irish squad for Wednesday’s friendly international in Denmark.

McShane required stitches after sustaining a bad head wound in Sunderland’s 3-0 loss to Wigan, while Richard Dunne, immense in Manchester City’s win over Manchester United, also required treatment to a bloody cut above the eye, although he saw out the 90 minutes at Eastlands and was expected to link up with the Irish squad last night.

His Manchester City teammate Stephen Ireland was also expected to join the squad, despite missing yesterday’s Manchester derby through illness.
