Behan backs City to overcome Roy loss

CORK CITY’S Denis Behan has backed Roy O’Donovan to do well at Sunderland and insists that City can get back on track without their leading striker.

Behan backs City to overcome Roy loss

“Roy has the right attitude going over there,” says Behan.

“That’s what he wanted to do, he wanted to make it at higher level and now he has every chance of doing great there. You can’t but miss someone that scores that many goals, but we have to keep going.

“After Kevin Doyle we wondered who was going to replace him and then Roy came along, so we have a knack of producing players who score goals and, who knows, myself, Johnny (O’Flynn) or Leon (McSweeney) might be the next person to do that.’’

Behan, currently out injured, will miss Friday’s Ford FAI Cup game against First Division Kilkenny City, but he fully understands the importance of the competition, as City have lost momentum in the league.

“Every game is important anyway, but being the Cup it’s a big crowd bringer and we want to show everyone in the league that we can start winning games and score goals,” he says.

“We have been playing really well — we just haven’t got that bit of luck this season, which St. Pat’s had at the start and now Drogheda are having.

“The further we go in the Cup the better and the more upbeat the mood people will be in. That will make the League a bit easier. The dressing room is in good form because we know we are playing well and we will soon start winning games.”
