Gunners claim UEFA Cup

Alex Scott’s last-gasp strike in Sweden last weekend was enough to secure Vic Akers’ side a 1-0 aggregate victory – and a place in the record books.

The Gunners rode their luck at times as the visitors hit the woodwork twice, while Irish goalkeeper Emma Byrne had to be at her best to deny substitute Ramona Bachmann in the dying stages.

Arsenal will become the first English club to complete a clean sweep of major trophies if they win the FA Women’s Cup final on May 7.

ARSENAL: Byrne, Scott, Ludlow (White 90), Asante, Phillip, Carney, Chapman, Grant, Yankey, Fleeting, Sanderson .

UMEA IK: Soberg, Paulsson, Westberg, Frisk, Bergqvist, Dahlkvist (Edlund 55), Moura, Ma (Bachmann 71), Klaveness, Marta, Ljungberg.

Referee: Nicole Petignat (Neftenbach).
