Cantona: Keane can follow Fergie as United boss

MANCHESTER UNITED legendEric Cantona believes Roy Keane has the credentials to become a long-term contender for the Old Trafford manager’s job.

Cantona, who played alongside Keane — now Sunderland manager — at United, pinpointed the similarities between Alex Ferguson and his former captain.

“It is important that (Alex Ferguson’s eventual successor) is somebody who knows how the club works, he needs to be very strong mentally and a strong person and Roy Keane is one of those,” Cantona said.

However, the Frenchman does not see Ferguson bowing out at Old Trafford just yet.

“Ferguson keeps himself young and needs football to stay young and football needs him,” Cantona added.
