Chelsea v United league showdown re-scheduled

MANCHESTER United’s crucial Premiership showdown with Chelsea has been re-arranged for Wednesday, May 9.

The game was due to be played at Stamford Bridge on April 14, but with both sides qualifying for the FA Cup semi-finals, it was automatically postponed.

A suggestion it could be scheduled to a date after the end of the Premier League season on May 13 was ruled out by league officials.

It means the game, televised by Sky Sports, will now be the second last game of the campaign for both sides and, if United maintain their six-point lead, the title will already be secure because of their vastly superior goal difference.

The Red Devils’ home clash with Sheffield United, due for April 10 but called off because of the Champions League quarter-final with AS Roma, will now be on Tuesday, April 17.
