Potter ‘lost for words’ as Kamara tears Wolves apart
Potter, who signed from Liverpool in the transfer window, admitted Wanderers let themselves down.
“I think the killer blow was going in 1-0 down at half time — it was absolutely frustrating,” said the midfielder.
“The gaffer said a lot of us threw the towel in when we went 2-0 down and he’s right, there didn’t seem to be too much fight from us for whatever reason. There is not much you can say — this is derby and if you ever should have ‘one of those days’ it wasn’t today.
“Today was about the FA Cup the league goes out the window — we were playing for pride and to get into the fifth round,” said Potter.
Former Ireland boss Mick McCarthy said: “West Brom were better than us and the two goals really killed us. I have been delighted with my players all season long — they have been brilliant all season. It was tough for them today.
“We came up against a better team, we gave the two goals away, but they took over after that,” said the Wolves manager.
Albion soaked up all the Wolves attacks and often looked like scoring with the pace of Diomansy Kamara and the guile of experienced Kevin Phillips.
Ireland’s man mountain Paul McShane again played at right-back and Neil Clement, who has taken his place at centre-half, was full of praise for Shane.
“Macker is doing well,” said Clement. “All four of us were chuffed as a back four to get a clean sheet.”
West Brom manager Tony Mowbray saluted the performance of striker Kamara .
The Senegal international scored a superb individual goal – his 15th of the season – to set the Baggies on the way and laid on a 12th strike of the campaign for veteran Phillips.
Kamara tormented the Wolves defence with his pace and power before Zoltan Gera put the icing on the cake with the third goal.
Mowbray said: “Diomansy has got wonderful attributes with great qualities. He is what I call asset-rich. He has great pace, great ball manipulation, is very direct and he showed great strength with his goal.
“He was disappointed to miss a sitter at the end but he was always a threat to Wolves. When you have got someone as direct and pacy as Diomansy up front, teams are going to be a bit wary and are on the back foot.
“But overall we did well. Molineux is a very tough fixture and I thought the players applied themselves very well to the task, scored three goals again which we have been doing consistently for the last 10 games or so.
“We were very solid defensively, kept them at bay, stuck to the game plan very well and deserved the victory.”
