Tolka clear-out continues as Baker signs for Drogs
Capped 17 times for Ireland at U21 level, Baker won titles with Shelbourne in 2002, 2003 and 2006.
Said the 27 year old: “I came to Drogheda because I want to win more trophies and emulate the great European experiences I enjoyed at Shels.”
Drogs boss Paul Doolin hailed the arrival of the attacking right-side midfielder, saying: “I have been watching him for years and he is one of the League of Ireland’s most exciting talents.” Baker is set to be the final addition to Drogheda’s squad for the new season.
Another on his way in the Tolka Park clear-out is Welsh defender Jamie Harris, who has signed for Stephen Kenny’s Dunfermline.
The 6ft 4in central defender – who also played for Swansea, St Patrick’s and Bohemians – has signed an 18-month contract with the Bank of Scotland Premier League bottom side.
Said Kenny: “He is a big lad, a commanding player who plays mainly at centre-back. He spent five years in Ireland initially as a centre forward and is very comfortable in possession. At 27 he is a good age for a centre-back and I am happy to get him on a free transfer.”
Meanwhile, last season’s First Division winners Shamrock Rovers have been busy laying plans for their return to the top flight.
Manager Pat Scully has signed a new three year deal, while Barry Ferguson (from Bohemians) and Tommy Barrett and Robbie Kelleher (from Limerick) have arrived at the club.
Stephen O’ Brien has also joined the Hoops from Bohs, primarily as a coach but also as cover for highly-rated ‘keeper Barry Murphy.
