Van Persie suffers broken metatarsal

ARSENAL confirmed last night that Robin Van Persie had broken the fifth metatarsal in his right foot when scoring the equaliser yesterday.

Further examination will be needed before a timeframe can be put on the Dutchman’s return.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said he had hoped to let substitute van Persie rest until United’s opener forced his hand. The 23-year-old had been struggling with an ankle injury in the build-up to the game.
