Ballack rejects Rummenigge criticism

MICHAEL BALLACK has shrugged off criticism by Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, insisting his former boss is trying to “twist” the events that led to his move to Chelsea.

The Germany captain was responding to remarks made last month when Rummenigge claimed Bayern were right to allow their talisman to leave on a free transfer.

Ballack said: “Mr Rummenigge should just say the truth and accept that now and again a player may choose another club over his.

“There is a hint he is attempting to twist events.”

Ballack rejected a lucrative new contract offer from the Bundesliga giants before moving to the Premiership last May.

The midfielder is taking time to adapt to the pace of the English game.

“I do miss the odd good cross from Willy Sagnol and Philipp Lahm,” he added.

“We play a little differently at Chelsea than we did at Bayern and it is harder to profit from my heading ability.”

The 30-year-old believes he has settled in well and deserves his place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up.

He continued: “I believe I am playing because I fulfil my tasks well, because I fit into the team and help it. Nobody at Chelsea has a guaranteed place.”
