Aidy fumes at Pompey penalty

WATFORD boss Adrian Boothroyd called for under-performing referees to be demoted after his side went down to a late penalty at Portsmouth.

Aidy fumes at Pompey penalty

Boothroyd risked the wrath of the FA by suggesting officials who get decisions wrong be put “in the stocks” and hit with “rotten tomatoes”.

He accused ref Chris Foy of being “overawed by the occasion” and failing to award the Hornets two penalties before he gave an 88th-minute spot-kick to Pompey which Lomana LuaLua scored to secure a 2-1 win.

Boothroyd is the latest manager to seek a meeting with referees’ chief Keith Hackett to voice his concerns.

“To my mind referees who get decisions wrong like this should be demoted to lower league games for a couple of weeks. Why should us poor managers put up with this kind of s**t?

“Possibly we should put them in the stocks and hit them with rotten tomatoes. All we want is consistency.”

Boothroyd felt Foy should have pointed to the spot for a foul on Darius Henderson and again for handball by Linvoy Primus.

Opta Fact: Pompey have now gone five games without a clean sheet in the league.

Opta Fact: Watford have won only one of 26 Premiership away games.
