Kenny set to join Dunfermline

STEPHEN KENNY is set to become the new manager of Dunfermline Athletic, according to reports.

Kenny refused to be drawn on the speculation when questioned this week, saying only that he was “very committed” to Derry.

“I’ve a job to do here,” he said.

However, BBC Scotland yesterday insisted that Kenny would be named the new manager of the struggling SPL club, replacing Jim Leishman at East End Park.

Former Scottish internationals Ally McCoist and Gary McAllister had both previously been linked with the job while former Pars striker Owen Coyle and Livingston’s John Robertson were also believed to be in the running. But Kenny’s success with Derry against Gretna in the Uefa Cup this season has boosted his profile in Scotland.

Under 35-year-old Kenny’s, Derry City’s fortunes have been transformed. Runners-up in the eircom League last season, they have landed the League Cup this term, have an FAI Cup final date against St Patrick’s Athletic next month, and have an outside chance of winning the League.
