Latics get nod for Landzaat

WIGAN’S bid for Holland midfielder Denny Landzaat has been accepted by his club, AZ Alkmaar.

The 30-year-old — who featured for the Dutch at the 2006 World Cup — has 21 caps for his country.

The Latics fare up against Spanish side Espanyol for Landzaat, who helped AZ to the UEFA Cup semi-finals two seasons ago but Latics boss Paul Jewell is confident of getting his man: “He’s a player I think can make a big impact at Wigan and I hope we can finalise the deal.

“It is not normal for us to comment on targets before a deal is completed but in this instance the news has already been made public.”
