STEVE BRUCE insists the £5.5 million sale of Emile Heskey to Wigan will help Birmingham keep hold of their other prize asset, Jermaine Pennant.

Former England striker Heskey, 28, completed his move back to the Premiership yesterday. And Bruce believes with the club’s coffers now swelled by that sale, there is no need to let former Arsenal youngster Pennant leave.

“Jermaine has been fantastic for us and it would take one hell of an offer to tempt us, especially now we don’t need the money,” he said.
