Chelsea accuse Madrid of illegal approach

CHELSEA are to ask FIFA to investigate an alleged illegal approach for Arjen Robben by Real Madrid.

The Premiership champions have been angered after new Madrid president Ramon Calderon claimed his sporting director Predrag Mijatovic has “been in touch” with the Dutch international, who is under contract st Stamford Bridge.

Calderon also claims to have spoken to Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and he is interested in signing unsettled Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, following the appointment of former Juventus and AC Milan boss Fabio Capello as Madrid’s new coach.

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon confirmed the London club would be writing to world football’s governing body.

“We are aware of comments regarding Arjen made by Ramon Calderon,” Kenyon said.

“The Arjen Robben situation could not be any clearer. There have been no meetings or conversations between the Real Madrid sporting director Predrag Mijatovic with any Chelsea officials, anyone mandated to act on Chelsea’s behalf or Roman Abramovich, about Arjen’s future.

“Any indication that a transfer is possible is completely untrue. We will not be entertaining any offers for Arjen, he is not for sale. Moreover, we note that Mr Calderon confirms that Real Madrid have spoken to Arjen. As a result of these various comments Chelsea will be writing to FIFA to ask them to investigate an illegal approach by Real Madrid.”

Regarding Robben, Calderon said: “Mijatovic has been at a match in Germany with (Chelsea owner) Roman Abramovich and in theory Mijatovic told us we can reach an agreement. We have been in touch with the player and it seems everything will be okay and that the player wants to come here.”

Real have not been in touch with Arsenal about Fabregas but Calderon claims Mijatovic has made contact with the midfielder’s representatives about a move.

“I think it’s more like 70%,” said Calderon when asked about the chances of buying Fabregas, whose impressive performance last season helped knock Real out of the Champions League.

“We have been talking to Fabregas previously and we now have to talk to Arsenal, they will have the last word. I know Mijatovic has been in touch with his (Fabregas’) representative and he says he is interested in joining us.”

Although Capello’s plans for the team are unknown, Calderon wants Fabregas, Robben, Van Nistelrooy and AC Milan midfielder Kaka as the club’s next generation of ‘galacticos’.

Van Nistelrooy’s future at Old Trafford appears uncertain following an end-of-season row with boss Alex Ferguson which led to the striker being asked to leave the team hotel prior to the final game of the season.
