Aragones expects Spain to improve
Their 4-0 triumph against Ukraine, in their opening Group H clash, lifted the nation’s hopes that Spain can go far in Germany, but Aragones believes his men have yet to prove their best.
“My team is not perfect yet,” he said.
“There are still a couple of things to polish. Let’s not forget that against a 10-man Ukraine we let in two goal opportunities.
“We cannot allow this to happen again and we must change this habit of suddenly relaxing during a game when we are in front.”
One aspect where La Nacional can improve, according to Aragones, is on the wing.
“My wingers have to go forward more often, in order to create more chances for our strikers,” he said.
A triumph against Tunisia would see the Spaniards through to the second round with a game in hand.
However, Aragones believes the African nation, who drew 2-2 against Saudi Arabia, will make them sweat.
“I really think Tunisia will be a more complicated rival than Ukraine,” Aragones said.
“They have a lot of quality, especially in midfield. If Tunisia were crowned African champions two years ago, it’s for a reason.
“I have seen them play eight or nine times and I am well aware of what we are up against,” Aragones said.
Nevertheless, Spain’s coach believes his team will not disappoint him.
“Tunisia may be a team that knows what they want, what they have and what they are playing for,” he said. “But we are going to beat Tunisia and qualify for the next round.”
Aragones has also not ruled out that Spain can go all the way.
“I want the best for this team and I think it’s possible to go far,” he said.
“I want to continue dreaming and I believe it’s important to dream in this tournament, especially when my players are showing an extraordinary temperament.”
Aragones looks set to play with the same starting 11 that humiliated Ukraine.
