Svensson backs Swedes to improve

SWEDEN midfielder Anders Svensson believes there is still much room for improvement in the squad as the clock ticks down towards their opening World Cup encounter against Trinidad & Tobago next week.

Svensson backs Swedes to improve

The Scandinavian side’s preparations have not quite gone according to plan with their lacklustre draw against Finland in a warm-up clash last week followed by another stalemate on Friday when they were held 1-1 by Chile in Stockholm.

Svensson was unlucky to hit the post in the second-half against the South Americans but, with their Group B opener looming, the Elfsborg man is hoping it will all come together for the Swedes on June 10.“There’s still a lot we need to improve on, but there were enough positives as well against Chile to give us hope and confidence for the World Cup. It was a tough game, they were very good on the ball, very technical,” he said.

Yet the 29-year-old also believes the clash was a necessary test for the side for when they line up against Paraguay in their second group match in Germany.
