Mikel set to join Chelsea

JOHN OBI MIKEL, the 19-year-old Nigerian midfielder, is expected to sign for Chelsea in the next 48 hours, according to reports.

It is reported that Chelsea have agreed a compensation package (around £10 million) with Manchester United, who believed they had signed Mikel in April last year.

Meanwhile, coach Jose Mourinho dismissed suggestions that Real Madrid’s left-back Roberto Carlos is too old for Chelsea. However, Roberto Carlos revealed yesterday that his first choice is to stay with Madrid.

Mourinho said: “I’m not one of those who looks at identity cards. I’m with those who think what’s most important about a player is what he does for 90 minutes, regardless if he is 20, 30 or 40 years old.
