City starlet Sturridge signs three-year deal

MANCHESTER CITY youngster Danny Sturridge has signed a three-year contract with the club.

The 16-year-old striker is yet to make an impression at first-team level but has been a reported target of Chelsea and Arsenal after performing well in the youth and reserve ranks.

City boss Stuart Pearce has brought youngsters such as Micah Richards and Nedum Onuoha into the senior team at Eastlands and believes Sturridge will eventually get his chance.

Pearce said: “Danny is a young man with great potential. He has already trained with the senior squad and I am looking forward to him joining us on a full-time basis.

Sturridge has represented England at U17 level and has been earmarked as a possible full international.

City chief executive Alistair Mackintosh added: “Every top Premiership club has cast envious glances at Danny, who is the best English striker in his age group. We are delighted he has committed himself to the club.”
