Canaries call the tune and go top
New signing Leon Mackenzie scored either side of half-time and manager Nigel Worthington was delighted with the victory which took the Canaries above West Brom.
“Our victory was a reward for hard work and quality of play as well as for scoring two very good goals,” he said.
“We were solid and resolute at the back because we were playing a very good team.”
Worthington was delighted with McKenzie, signed earlier in the week from Peterborough, and the partnership he formed with fellow new arrival Matt Svensson from Charlton.
Worthington said: “Leon grabbed his chance at this level with both hands. He is a natural goal poacher as he showed with the opening goal. He is also very good in the air as he proved with the second.
“And now it is important that we stay focused and keep our feet on the ground because there will be lots of twists and turns in the promotion race.”
Worthington is still hopeful of signing Darren Huckerby from Manchester City after his successful loan spell at Carrow Road. “I have been having ongoing talks with Darren’s representatives,” he added. “I am optimistic but we have got to be patient.”
Ipswich manager Joe Royle may respond to the defeat by making changes for the St Stephen’s Day trip to West Ham.
Royle said: “I wanted to be a little bit loyal to the players who have been doing so well for us but in the last two games there have been signs that we are becoming a little bit stale and a bit predictable. I will be acting on that.
