Chelsea told to focus on double

JOSE MOURINHO has ordered his players to lock their minds on a domestic double after their European heartbreak.

Chelsea boss Mourinho will demand an instant response to the Champions League exit against Barcelona. The Blues can still make history by bringing the league and FA Cup double to Stamford Bridge for the first time.

And Mourinho is keen to ensure his players do not let their minds drift towards the World Cup finals before both trophies are in the bag.

Chelsea will move three points closer to defending their title if they beat Tottenham at home today and Joe Cole admits Mourinho will axe any player who shows signs of distraction.

Cole said: “We have a great finale to the season now. It has been nice thinking and dreaming about the World Cup but we have to put it to bed and concentrate on Chelsea.

“It is everywhere now, adverts on the TV and stuff. It isn’t easy to forget about it but if Jose thought we were day-dreaming about the World Cup you would be straight off. You have to concentrate on Chelsea.”

The Premiership champions can pass other milestones as they chase their two remaining trophies.

Mourinho has still not lost a league game at Stamford Bridge and, if he avoids defeat against Spurs, it will be his 40th without defeat. Chelsea are 15 points clear at the top of the table. They can still break their own record points tally of 95 from last season and can even smash the 100-point barrier - if they win their last 10 games.

They can also beat Manchester United’s record of winning the title with an 18-point cushion in 2000.

Cole has been in top form and does not expect his own enthusiasm to vanish during the last two months of Chelsea’s season.

The England midfielder said: “Every day I go into training and try to enjoy myself whether I’m playing or not because it’s a constant fight.

“It’s not like a boxer who can win a fight and have two months celebrating. You play well in a game and that’s great for that moment but you’ve got to get yourself ready for the next game.”

Chelsea will offer a special tribute before today’s game to the life of Peter Osgood, who died suddenly last week.

His family and several former Blues team-mates will be at Stamford Bridge. A wreath will be laid, black armbands will be worn by the players and there will be a minute’s applause before the kick-off.

Chelsea have also warned fans that anyone who spoils the day with anti-Semitic behaviour will be identified and prosecuted by police.

The club have promised to ban guilty offenders from Stamford Bridge until at least the end of next season.

The Jewish community and the Football Association have backed the initiative.

Chelsea’s chief executive Peter Kenyon said: “Chelsea FC is proud of its record in tackling racism and stamping out anti-Semitism is part of that.

“The diversity at Chelsea is obvious to all. The players Jose Mourinho has brought together on the field of play, the fans watching them in the stadium and the religious background of some of our directors and owner all illustrate our vision as a multi-racial club of which we are very proud.

“The match against Spurs is a great opportunity to show this. We urge all supporters to respect this and, if there is any abuse, report it. Anti-Semitism is unacceptable and jeopardises what coming to Stamford Bridge should be about.”
