The ex-Dundee United defender was high on the club’s wanted list under Martin O’Neill.

But Strachan was determined to make his own mind up about the talented youngster, who can play at right-back and in midfield, and he spent the first half of the season deciding if Wilson had what it takes to play for Celtic.

The speculation ended yesterday when Wilson signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Glasgow club. The player is reported to have cost Celtic £500,000 (€730,000).
